Qualification: Graduate in Law.
A Superintendent or a Ministerial Officer in the High Court or in any Civil or Criminal Court sub-ordinate to the High Court or an Assistant Law Officer or Translator of the Law Department of Government, were also eligible to apply.
Compulsory: Candidates should have ability to read, write and speak fluently in Oriya and must have passed examination in Oriya Language in their middle school standard.
Pay Scale: RS.27700—Rs.44770
Age limit: Candidates should be within 23yrs to 35yrs as on 1st August 2012. Age relaxation—SC/ST/SEBC or Woman candidates: 05 yrs.
Candidates’ selection: Odisha public Service Commission will select the candidates for recruitment to the Cadre of Civil Judges through (I) Preliminary Examination (II) Main Written Examination and (III) Interview.
Preliminary Examination will be of 100 marks of 100 Nos. Objective type question. Time allotted—1 ½ hour and will be on following topics—
(a) Constitution of India; (b) Code of Civil Procedure; (c) Code of Criminal Procedure; (d) Evidence Act; (e) Indian Penal Code; (f) Limitation Act; (g) Transfer of Property Act; (h) Contract Act; (i) Law of Succession (Indian Succession Act and Hindu Succession Act) and (j) Specific Relief Act.
45% marks (40% for SC/ST) will be taken as qualified marks and will be called for Main Written Examination.
Main Written Examination will be on 3 papers out of which 2 papers will be compulsory and one optional.
Compulsory 2 papers will be on—
Paper 1: General English
Paper 2: Procedural Laws
Optional Paper will be on following subjects out of which candidates may opt any three subjects from the total of 5 subjects—
(1) Law of Crime and & Law of Torts; (2) Personal Law; (3) Law of Property; (4) Law of Contract and (5) Jurisprudence and Constitution of India.

Candidates qualified in Main Written Examination will be called for Interview.
How to apply: Application form along with other materials can be collected from the Commission’s Office on payment of Rs.30 in cash during office hours or can requested by speed post/registered post after sending Bank draft or PO of Rs.70 in favour of Special Secretary, Odisha Public Service Commission payable at any Scheduled Bank at Cuttack with a forwarding letter addressed to the Special Secretary, O.P.S.C., Cuttack mentioning full name & address of the candidate, Advertisement Number and name of the Post/Service advertised in bold capital letters.
Examination fee: Examination fee of Rs.100 is to be paid in form of Account payee bank Draft/Pay Order in favour of Special Secretary, Odisha Public Service Commission payable at any Scheduled Bank at Cuttack.
The duly filled application form can be sent though Registered Post/ Speed Post/ Courier Service to the commission’s office address (given below).
The special envelope should contain the following enclosures—
- Application Form duly filled in, signed and black and white photograph pasted
- Original Treasury Challan/Bank Draft/Pay Order of Rs.100 as Examination fee.
- Acknowledgement Card duly filled in and affixed with postage stamp of Rs.6/- only.
Do not enclose any other documents, such as educational certificates, along with application form containing envelope.
