SSC Stenographer 2024: The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the SSC Stenographer Notification 2024 for the Grade ‘C’ & Grade ‘D’ Examination on 26 July 2024. Candidates must buckle up and start their preparation early. The most important thing for starting preparation is knowing the exam pattern and syllabus. The exam will be conducted in two stages. The SSC Stenographer Tier 1 comprises three sections: General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, and English Language & Comprehension, while Tier 2 involves a shorthand skill test. Candidates who pass Tier 1, the CBT round, will proceed to Tier 2 for the Skill Test.
SSC Stenographer Exam Overview
The Staff Selection Commission has released the SSC Stenographer Syllabus and Exam Pattern for the SSC Stenographer Exam. Candidates should get an overall idea about the exam.
- The Tier 1 exam is divided into three parts: General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, and English Language & Comprehension.
- Tier 1 consists of 200 questions, each worth one mark, totaling 200 marks. The exam duration is 2 hours. The exam is conducted in both English and Hindi, except for the English Language section.
- In Tier 2, candidates will take a shorthand skill test, where they listen to a passage being dictated and then type it on a computer. The dictation speed for Grade C is 100 words per minute (w.p.m.). The dictation speed for Grade D is 80 words per minute (w.p.m.).

The SSC Stenographer Exam will be conducted in two tiers. Candidates who qualify for Tier 1 will go for the Tier 2 Exam. SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern Tier 1
The SSC Stenographer Tier 1 Exam consists of three sections: General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, and English Language & Comprehension. The exam will be conducted online in a Computer Based Test (CBT) format, comprising a total of 200 questions, each carrying 1 mark. For each wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted. The exam duration is 2 hours and will be conducted in both English and Hindi.

SSC Stenographer Skill Test Exam Pattern
Candidates will receive a dictation time of 10 minutes in either English or Hindi, based on their preference selected during the online application form submission. Tier 2 will be a skill test where candidates will first have to write a passage on any given topic in 10 minutes at the speed of 100 words per minute (w.p.m.) for the post of Stenographer Grade C and 80 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade D. SSC Stenographer Tier 2 is the second stage of the selection process and is a skill test round.
