Qualification: Graduate candidates, in any discipline and pass or honours, may apply. Candidates appearing Final year examination this year may also apply but they should have to provide attested copy of Marksheet or certificate during Main Examination (Main exam may hold on July/August of 2013).

Age Required: Candidates should be within 21yrs to 30yrs as on dated 1/8/2012, i.e. date of birth should be within 2-8-1982 to 1-8-1991. Age relaxation—for OBC-3yrs, for SC/ST-5yrs, for PH- 10yrs and Ex-Serviceman- as per norms.

Candidates selection: Candidates will be selected by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) through Civil Services Examination- 2012.
The Preliminary Exam will be on dated 20 May 2012 at the respective centres— AGARTALA, AHMEDABAD, AIZAWL, ALIGARH, ALLAHABAD, AURANGABAD, BANGALORE, BAREILLY, BHOPAL, CHANDIGARH, CHENNAI, CUTTACK, DEHRADUN, DELHI, DHARWAD, DISPUR, GANGTOK, HYDERABAD, IMPHAL, ITANAGAR, JAIPUR, JAMMU, JODHPUR, JORHAT, KOCHI, KOHIMA, KOLKATA, LUCKNOW, MADURAI, MUMBAI, NAGPUR, PANAJI (GOA), PATNA, PUDUCHERRY, PORT BLAIR, RAIPUR, RANCHI, SAMBALPUR, SHILLONG, SHIMLA, SRINAGAR, THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, TIRUPATI,   UDAIPUR and VISHAKHAPATNAM

Preliminary Exam will be of Objective Types Questions in two papers and of 200marks each.
Paper-I (200 marks), time allotted- 2hrs, will be on following topics— Current events of national and international importance,  History of India and Indian National Movement, Indian and World Geography – Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World, Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc,  Economic and Social Development -Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc., Ge n e r a l   i s s u e s   o n   E n v i r o nme n t a l Ecology,  Bio-diversity and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialisation and General Science.
Paper-II (200 marks), time allotted-2hrs, will be on following topics—comprehension, I n t e r p e r s o n a l   s k i l l s   i n c l u d i n g communication skills; L o g i c a l   r e a s o n i n g   a n d   a n a l y t i c a l ability, D e c i s i o n – m a k i n g   a n d   p r o b l e m –solving,  General mental ability, Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations,  orders of  magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation ( c h a r t s ,   g r a p h s ,   t a b l e s ,   d a t a sufficiency etc. – Class X level) and English Language Comprehensive skills (class X level).

Questions for both papers will be set in Hindi and English.

Candidates qualified from Preliminary Exam will be called for Main Written Examination. Main exam will be in 9 papers of total 2600 marks. Out of 9 papers there will be compulsory 5 papers—Language paper (e.g. Bengali for West Bengal), English, English Essay, General Studies (History of Modern India and Culture, Geography of India, Indian Politics and Affairs) and General Studies (India’s Economic Interaction with World, International Affairs and Institutions). Beside this candidates will have to take two optional papers from the followings—Agriculture, Animal husbandry and Veterinary Science, Anthropology, Botany, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Commerce and Accountancy, Economics, electrical Engineering, Geography, Geology, History, Law, Management, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Medical Science, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science and International Relations, Psychology, Public Administration, Sociology, Zoology and Statistics.

Candidates, if qualified in Main Examination then will be called for Interview.

How to Apply: Application form can be submitted through Online from the official site of UPSC—http://www.upsc.gov.in.
Candidates should have their own valid email id. Before apply online, candidates will require to deposit Examination fee of Rs.50 through fee challan from any branch of State Bank of India. SC/ST/PH, Female candidates do no require to pay exam fee.
After depositing the fee, candidates can visit the website of UPSC and then can do the Part-I registration and Part-II registration. During registration candidates will also require to provide scan image of their own signature and passport size photograph.
After successful submission of Online application form, candidates should make print-out copy of the computer generated application form. There is no need to send any documents by post.
