The selection process for Bihar Home Guard Company Commander Recruitment 2026 consists of three stages:
Stage 1: Preliminary Written Examination
- Total Marks: 200 marks
- Total Questions: 100 questions

- Subjects: General Knowledge and Contemporary Issues
- Minimum Qualifying Marks: 30%
- Selection for Main Exam: Candidates securing 30% or more marks will be shortlisted. Candidates equal to 20 times the number of vacancies will be selected for the Main Examination based on merit and reservation category.
Stage 2: Main Written Examination

Important: Candidates will get a maximum of three attempts for High Jump, Long Jump and Shot Put. Candidates who complete the running within the prescribed time will be allowed to participate in other events. Failure to meet the minimum standards in any event will result in disqualification, and such candidates will not be allowed to participate in other events.
Transgender Candidates
For transgender candidates, the physical standards and physical efficiency test standards shall be the same as those for Backward Class candidates.
Merit List and Final Selection
- The final merit list will be prepared based on the marks obtained in the Main Written Examination.
- In case of equal marks, the candidate older in age will rank higher.
- If age is also equal, the candidate with higher educational qualification will rank higher.
- If educational qualification is also equal, priority will be determined based on the English alphabetical order of the name as recorded in the 10th board certificate.

Reservation Provisions
Women Reservation (35% Horizontal)
- 35% of posts in each reservation category are reserved for women.
- This reservation is horizontal (interchangeable).
- Only permanent residents of Bihar State are eligible for this 35% horizontal reservation.
- However, as per Section 4(3) of the Bihar Act 3, 1992, women may also be appointed on merit basis in addition to the above 35% reservation.
Freedom Fighters’ Dependents (2% Horizontal)
- 2% horizontal reservation is provided for dependents of freedom fighters of Bihar State who are approved for pension by the Central Government.
- Selected candidates will be counted in their respective reserved/unreserved category.
EWS Reservation
- Reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) shall be applicable as per the Bihar Act, 2019.

Transgender Reservation
- Transgender persons are included at Sl. No. 47 in Schedule-2 of the Bihar Act 3, 1992 (list of Backward Classes).
- They will be entitled to the benefits of reservation available to Backward Classes.
- Gender identity shall be determined as per the identity card issued by the District Magistrate.

- All types of reservation benefits are available only to permanent residents of Bihar State.
