Written Examination (OMR Based)

The initial stage is the OMR-based Written Examination. This exam consists of two papers (Morning & Evening sessions) of 100 marks each, for a total of 200 marks. Each question carries 1 mark, and there is no negative marking. The medium of examination is English. Candidates must secure at least 40% marks in each paper (40 out of 100) to qualify. Marks obtained in the Written Test are the basis for the merit list.

Typing Test (Clerk) / Stenography Test (Steno-Typist)

The second stage is a qualifying test only (no marks/weightage).

  • For Clerk: Typing Test on Computer @ 35 words per minute in English for 10 minutes.
  • For Steno-Typist: Stenography Test – Dictation @ 80 w.p.m. for 10 minutes, followed by Transcription of 50 minutes on Computer in English.

Candidates must clear this stage to move forward. There is no interview round.

Document Verification (DV)

This is the final stage. Candidates who qualify in both the Written Test and the Skill Test are called for Document Verification. Original certificates (Educational Qualification, Caste, Disability, Ex-Serviceman, etc.) are verified. Failure to produce the requisite documents leads to cancellation of candidature.

Chandigarh Administration Document Verification Process

Candidates who clear both the Written Test and the Skill Test are called for Document Verification. The following documents are required:

Identity and Address Proof:

  • Valid ID Proof: Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, Driving License, PAN Card, Passport, etc.

Educational Qualification:

  • Matriculation/Secondary Certificate (for date of birth).
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University (mandatory for both posts).
  • ICT Training Course on Computer (CCC) of 80 hours (to be furnished at DV).
  • For Distance Learning degrees: Approval from Distance Education Bureau, UGC.

Category Certificates (if applicable):

  • SC / OBC (with Central List for UT Chandigarh) / EWS (Income & Asset Certificate for FY 2025-2026).
  • PwBD Certificate (as per RPwD Act, 2016 format – Annexure VI/VII/VIII).

Merit List: Prepared solely on the basis of marks obtained in the Written Examination (200 marks). The Skill Test is qualifying only.

  2. If same age, candidate with higher percentage in Bachelor’s Degree ranks higher.

Waiting List: A waiting list is maintained. If a selected candidate fails to join within one month, the next candidate from the waiting list is offered the appointment.

Common Cadre: Selected candidates are liable to be transferred to any Department of the Chandigarh Administration.
