The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) confirmed a major recruitment benefit for Ex-Agniveers through a Press Information Bureau (PIB) release dated 21 July 2026. A new Ex-Agniveer category has been created for recruitment to the posts of Constable (General Duty) in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Rifleman in the Assam Rifles.

Key Benefits for Ex-Agniveers

1. 50% Reservation in Recruitment

Ex-Agniveers will now get 50% of vacancies reserved in Constable (GD) and Rifleman posts across CAPFs and Assam Rifles — a significant career pathway after completing Agniveer service.

2. Upper Age Relaxation

  • 3 years relaxation in the prescribed upper age limit for all Ex-Agniveers.
  • An additional 5 years (8 years total) for candidates from the first batch of Ex-Agniveers.

3. Exemption from Recruitment Tests

Ex-Agniveers are exempted from three major recruitment stages, in recognition of their existing military training:

  • Physical Standards Test (PST)
  • Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

New Ex-Agniveer Wing Under MHA

A dedicated Ex-Agniveer Wing has been set up under the Ministry of Home Affairs to coordinate the career progression and reintegration of Ex-Agniveers into central forces and other opportunities after their term ends.

First Batch Status

According to the release, the first batch of Agniveers has not yet completed its term of engagement. These reservation and relaxation benefits have therefore been announced in advance, giving clarity on the transition pathway before the first batch actually becomes eligible.
