FIRE OPERATOR IN THE WEST BENGAL FIRE SERVICES
No. of Vacancies: 1452 Nos. (UR-707, OBC-231, SC-309, ST-93, Meritorious Sportsperson-32, EXSM-80)
Educational Qualification:
i) Must have passed Madhyamik examination or its equivalent from any Govt. recognized Board or Institution.
ii) Ability to read, write and speak in Bengali is essential (not applicable to candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali).
Desirable:
i) Minimum 01 year experience in fire fighting in any Govt. department or organisation or Public Sector Undertaking or autonomous bodies.
ii) ITI Certificate in any of the following disciplines – Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Automobile Engineering.
iii) Swimming certificate from any Government recognized club or institute.
Age Limit: Minimum 18 years and maximum 27 years as on 01.01.2018.
Pay Scale: Rs. 5,400/- – Rs. 25,200/- with Grade Pay Rs. 2,600/-
The vacancies are in the West Bengal Fire Services under the Department of Fire & Emergency Services, Govt. of West Bengal. The post is Permanent in nature. Reserved Category candidates of states other than West Bengal will be treated as General category candidates.
Upper Age Relaxation: Upper age limit is relaxable by 05 years for SC/ST and 03 years for OBC category.
Physical Standards:
(i) Male Candidates: Height — 5’6” or 167.6 cms; Chest (unexpanded) — 32” or 81.3 cms; Chest (expanded) — 34” or 86.3 cms
Cut-off in Physical Standards: For candidates belonging to certain categories/ communities or of certain States/Areas; the cut-off in such candidate’s Height/ Chest’s measurement will be as per Govt. norms. Please see officially released advertisement for more details.
Candidates’ Selection: Selection of candidates will be through Written Examination, Physical Measurement Test, Endurance Test and Personality Test. The Written Examination will be held at various centres in West Bengal tentatively on the 15th September, 2018. The Physical Measurement Test and Endurance Test will be held at Kolkata and the Personality Test in the office of Public Service Commission, West Bengal, in Kolkata.
