The Gujarat State Nodal Agency, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara, has announced the 20th Gujarat State Eligibility Test (GSET) 2026 for determining the eligibility of candidates for the position of Assistant Professor in universities and colleges across Gujarat State. The examination is scheduled to be conducted on Sunday, 29th November 2026.
The application process will commence on 22nd June 2026, with online registration available at the official website www.gujaratset.ac.in. Candidates who have completed or are pursuing their Master’s degree in a UGC-recognized subject can apply for 36 subjects across 12 examination centres in Gujarat.

GSET 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
- Candidates must have completed or be studying in the final year of a UGC-recognized Master’s degree in a subject of GSET.
- General/Unreserved/General-EWS Candidates: Must have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree from UGC-recognized institutions.
- SEBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender Candidates: Must have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination.
- Candidates with a PG Diploma/Certificate from Indian/Foreign Universities must obtain equivalence from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi.
- Ph.D. degree holders whose Master’s level examination was completed by 19th September 1991 are eligible for a 5% relaxation in aggregate marks (from 55% to 50%).
Important Points
- No upper age limit for applying to GSET for Assistant Professor eligibility.
- Candidates studying in the first year of a two-year Master’s course or first two semesters of a four-semester course or fourth year of a five-year Integrated Master’s course are NOT eligible.
- Candidates who have already qualified GSET in a subject cannot appear again in the same subject.
- Only candidates who are domicile of Gujarat State can avail of reservation benefits. Other state candidates belonging to reserved categories will be treated as General category candidates.
Age Relaxation
Candidates belonging to the Third Gender category will be eligible for the same relaxation in fee, age, and qualifying criteria as available to SC/ST categories. The subject-wise cut-offs for this category will be the lowest among those for SC/ST/SEBC-NCL categories.

Mode of Payment
- Fee can be paid only through online mode by Credit Card / Debit Card / Net Banking.
- No Demand Draft, Money Order, Pay Order, Cheque, or IPO will be accepted.
- Fee, once paid, will not be refunded under any circumstances.
GSET 2026 Application Form
The online application process for GSET 2026 will begin on 22nd June 2026. Candidates must complete two mandatory steps:
Step 1 – Pay Examination Fee
- Visit the GSET website: www.gujaratset.ac.in
- Pay the examination fee through online mode
- Note down and preserve the Order Number and Payment Reference ID (Easepay ID)
- Print the fee payment receipt for future reference
Step 2 – Register Online for GSET Examination
- Log in to your account using the Order Number and Payment Reference ID
- Fill in the online application form with correct details
- Upload a recent scanned passport-size photograph in JPEG format (file size less than 100kb)
- Submit the application form
- Take a printout of the filled online application form for future reference
Important Notes:
- Only one application is to be submitted by a candidate
- Incomplete application forms will be rejected
- No correction will be allowed after submission
- Printout of the application form should NOT be sent to the GSET Office
Gujarat SET 2026 Exam Pattern
The GSET Examination will consist of two papers with objective-type multiple-choice questions.

Key Features of Exam Pattern
- Paper-I: General nature questions to assess teaching/research aptitude, reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness (2 marks per question).
- Paper-II: Subject-specific questions based on the candidate’s chosen subject (2 marks per question).
- No negative marking for incorrect answers.
- Questions in both papers will appear in Gujarati and English versions (except for language and science subjects).
- Language subjects: Questions in the respective language.
- Science subjects: Questions in English only.
- In case of discrepancy between Gujarati and English versions, the English version will be treated as final.
GSET 2026 Selection Process
Step I: Total Slots Calculation
The number of candidates to be qualified for Eligibility for Assistant Professor shall be equal to 6% of the total candidates who appeared in both papers of GSET.
Step II: Category-wise Allocation
Total slots will be allocated to different categories as per the prevalent reservation policy of the Gujarat State for admission in Higher Education.
Step III: Minimum Qualifying Marks
- General/Unreserved/General-EWS Candidates: Minimum 40% aggregate marks in both papers taken together.
- SC/ST/SEBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/PwD/Third Gender Candidates: Minimum 35% aggregate marks in both papers taken together.
Step IV: Subject-wise Cut-off
The qualifying cut-off for each subject and category will be determined based on the allocation of slots and category-wise performance.
Provisions for Persons with Disabilities (PwD)
- Candidates with 40% or more disability are eligible for reservation benefits.
- PwD candidates must select the correct disability category in the application form and OMR answer sheet.
- Blindness and Low Vision category candidates will be provided with a Scribe/Writer (a graduate in a subject other than the candidate’s subject).
- Other PwD candidates who cannot write in their own handwriting can also avail of Scribe services.
- Compensatory time: Extra 20 minutes for Paper-I and 40 minutes for Paper-II.
- No Braille question booklets are provided.
