JNU Faculty Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Before applying for JNU faculty vacancies, candidates must go through the minimum eligibility criteria mentioned in the official notification PDF. The essential qualifications are as per UGC Regulations, 2018, as amended from time to time.

Educational Qualification for Professor

(A) (i) An eminent scholar having a Ph.D. degree in the concerned/allied/relevant discipline, with published work of high quality, actively engaged in research with evidence of a minimum of 10 research publications in peer-reviewed or Scopus/Web of Science/JAI indexed journals, and a total research score of 120 as per UGC Regulations, 2018. (ii) A minimum of ten years of teaching experience in university/college as Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor, and/or research experience at equivalent level with evidence of having successfully guided doctoral candidate.

OR

(B) An outstanding professional having a Ph.D. degree in the relevant/allied/applied disciplines from any academic institution/industry who has made significant contribution to knowledge with ten years’ experience.

Educational Qualification for Associate Professor

(i) A good academic record with a Ph.D. Degree in the concerned/allied/relevant disciplines. (ii) A Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade). (iii) A minimum of eight years of experience of teaching and/or research in an academic/research position equivalent to Assistant Professor with a minimum of seven publications in peer-reviewed or Scopus/Web of Science/JAI indexed journals and a total research score of 75 as per UGC Regulations, 2018.

Educational Qualification for Assistant Professor

(i) A Master’s degree with 55% marks (or an equivalent grade) in a concerned/relevant/allied subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university. (ii) Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, the candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC or CSIR, or a similar test like SLET/SET, or have been awarded a Ph.D. degree as per UGC Regulations (exempted from NET/SLET/SET under specified conditions).

Relaxations:

  • 5% relaxation at Bachelor’s and Master’s level for SC/ST/OBC (Non-creamy Layer)/PwD candidates.
  • 5% relaxation (from 55% to 50%) for Ph.D. degree holders who obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19 September 1991.

Selection Process

The selection process for JNU faculty positions will be based on the following stages:

  1. Shortlisting – Based on Academic Score as specified in Appendix II (Table 3A) of UGC Regulations, 2018. Where the number of applications is large, the University may restrict the number of candidates to a reasonable limit on the basis of qualifications/experience higher than the minimum prescribed.
  2. Interview – Selections shall be based only on the performance in the interview. The interview may be conducted through Online/Offline Mode or both.
  3. Panel Formation – The University reserves the right to draw panel(s) for future appointment(s) in the event of non-joining of candidate(s) within the stipulated time.
