The NICL Assistant Prelims Exam will be held Online. Students have to answer questions from three subjects and those are Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Language. All the questions will be in the MCQ (Multiple Choice) format. The total marks of the exam is 100 and you will get 60 minutes in total to complete the whole exam.
As you know, there are 30 questions in the English Section, 35 Questions in Reasoning and 35 Questions in the Quantitative Aptitude (Math) Section. Only 20 minutes are allocated for each section and to complete the 3 sections, you will get one hour only.
To pass this exam and move to the next stage of selection known as (Mains exam), students must score the minimum marks in each section. So, it’s very important to understand the full syllabus and exam pattern well before you start preparing for the exam.

NICL Assistant Mains Exam Pattern 2025-26
- The NICL Assistant Mains Exam will be held online where all questions will be set in a MCQ (Multiple Choice) format. The main purpose of the exam is to check how well students know five different subjects. These are General Awareness, English Language, Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude (Maths), and Computer Knowledge.
- After clearing prelims and mains exam, students have to achieve minimum qualifying marks in each subject to move to the next stages of the selection process known as Language Proficiency Test.
- Having deep knowledge in the Exam Pattern and Syllabus will help you to make a proper study plan so that you can give enough time for each subject proportionately and prepare for each subject in the most effective manner.
- In the Mains exam, there are 40 questions in each section. The Reasoning section has 40 questions for 40 marks and will be concluded in 30 minutes.
- The English section also has 40 questions for 40 marks. You will be given 30 minutes to solve the problems of the section.
- The Maths (Numerical Ability) section includes 40 questions for 40 marks and also gives 30 minutes.

After clearing the two main exams (Prelims and Mains) of NICL Assistant 2025-26, students will be called for one more test called the Language Proficiency Test (LPT). In this test, students have to show that they can read and write the local language of the state they applied from.
