The Board of Secondary Education, Odisha, Cuttack (BSE, Odisha, Kataka) has released Notification No. 2198/Conf-I dated 01.08.2026, inviting applications from eligible candidates for appearing in the Odisha Secondary School Teacher Eligibility Test (OSSTET) 2026. Passing OSSTET is a mandatory eligibility criterion for appointment as a teacher in Secondary Schools (Govt./Govt. Aided/Recognised Unaided) in the State of Odisha. Odisha OSSTET 2026 โ€“ Applicability

OSSTET shall be applicable to all candidates who possess the requisite academic and training qualifications with the requisite percentage of marks, as prescribed by the Government of Odisha, Department of School & Mass Education, or who are in the process of acquiring the requisite training qualification (in the final year of the training course, or appearing/have appeared in the training examination but result not published) as on the date of publication of the OSSTET advertisement, and who desire to become teachers in Secondary Schools (Govt./Govt. Aided/Recognised Unaided) in the State of Odisha.

General Eligibility

The candidate must be a citizen of India.

Ability to Read and Write Odia

The candidate must be able to read and write Odia. Any one of the following qualifications will be considered to ascertain this ability:

  • Passed HSC Examination conducted by BSE Odisha (or an equivalent examination by any other State/Central Board like CBSE, ICSE) with Odia as First/Second/Third Language subject, OR
  • Passed +2/Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha, with Odia as an examinable subject, OR
  • Passed Odia Examination of HSC/10th Standard Single Subject Examination conducted by BSE, Odisha.

Note: Candidates desiring to be language teachers like Hindi/Classical Teachers (Sanskrit/Telugu/Urdu) may instead pass the Odia Examination of 7th/8th Standard conducted by BSE, Odisha.

BSE Odisha has started accepting applications for OSSTET 2026 online from 3rd August 2026 through www.bseodisha.ac.in. The online link will be available 24×7 from 3rd August 2026 till midnight of 17th August 2026. Candidates must note that under no circumstances shall the last date be extended.

Step-by-Step Registration Process

  1. Visit www.bseodisha.ac.in and click “Click Here for New Registration” (or log in with registered mobile number and password if already registered).
  2. Enter Name, Password, Mobile No., e-Mail ID, and Caste Category, then click “Submit”. (Caste entered cannot be corrected later.)
  3. Log in again using the registered mobile number and password.
  4. Enter the verification code sent to the registered mobile number and click “Verify”.
  5. Proceed to payment of the application fee through online mode.
  6. Fill up the four sections of the application form in order: (a) Personal Information, (b) Eligibility Criteria, (c) Educational Qualification, (d) Declaration.
  7. Upload all required certificates/documents/photos in jpg/jpeg/png format within the specified size.
  8. Review all filled information at the Declaration stage; edit if necessary before ticking the declaration box.
  9. Click “YES โ€“ FINAL SUBMIT” to complete registration โ€” no further editing is possible after this step.
  10. Download and preserve the print copy of the Acknowledgement Receipt; registration is complete only after this receipt is downloaded, failing which the admit card cannot be generated and the candidate shall not be allowed to appear in the examination.

Note: The candidate should enter their own valid e-Mail ID and Mobile Number, failing which online registration cannot be completed. A number of chances are given to edit information before final submission; BSE Odisha shall not correct any wrong information filled up by the candidate.

OSSTET 2026 Exam Pattern

  • There shall be two papers: Paper-I (for Category I โ€“ Education Teachers) and Paper-II (for Category II โ€“ Physical Education Teacher).
  • Duration of each paper: 2 hours 30 minutes.
  • All questions are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), each carrying 1 mark, with four alternatives (one correct).
  • There shall be no negative marking.
  • Each paper has four sections.

Medium of Questions

  • Section I (Odia) and Section II (English) are compulsory for all categories of posts.
  • In Section III, questions for TGT (Arts) and TGT (Science โ€“ PCM & CBZ) shall be in English; questions for Classical Teacher (Sanskrit/Telugu/Urdu) and Hindi Teacher shall be in the respective language/script.
  • In Section III for Paper-II (Physical Education Teacher), questions shall be in English.
  • In Section IV (Child Development, Pedagogy, School Management & Evaluation), questions shall be in English and compulsory for both categories.

OSSTET 2026 Qualifying Marks

  • The minimum pass mark in each paper is 45% (68 marks out of 150) for General category candidates.
  • For SC/ST/PH/SEBC candidates, the minimum pass mark is 35% (53 marks out of 150).
  • A candidate securing the qualifying percentage or more in each paper shall be considered to have qualified OSSTET.

OSSTET 2026 Certificate, Validity & Number of Chances

  • Successful candidates shall be awarded the OSSTET Pass Certificate by BSE, Odisha.
  • The OSSTET Pass Certificate shall remain valid till the candidate reaches the upper age limit prescribed for recruitment of teachers, as per rules or executive instructions issued by the Government from time to time.
  • There is no restriction on the number of attempts a candidate can take for acquiring the OSSTET Pass Certificate.
  • Qualifying OSSTET is only one of the essential eligibility criteria for appointment; it does not confer any right to recruitment/employment in any Government or Government-Aided school. Eligibility for recruitment shall be determined by the concerned recruiting agency/appointing authority.
