RRB Station Master Minimum Qualifying Marks 2026
The minimum qualifying percentages prescribed for CBT are as follows:
| Category | Minimum Qualifying Marks |
|---|---|
| Unreserved (UR) | 40% |
| Economically Weaker Section (EWS) | 40% |
| OBC – Non-Creamy Layer | 30% |
| Scheduled Caste (SC) | 30% |
| Scheduled Tribe (ST) | 25% |
The same minimum qualifying percentages apply to Ex-Servicemen candidates according to their respective communities.
Note: These are minimum qualifying requirements, not final selection cut-offs. Shortlisting for CBAT is based on merit and the applicable recruitment rules.
RRB Station Master Negative Marking 2026
Negative marking applies to the Computer Based Test.
For each incorrect answer, one-third of the marks allotted to the question will be deducted.
Since the CBT questions carry one mark each, the marking scheme is:
| Answer Status | Marks |
|---|---|
| Correct Answer | +1 |
| Incorrect Answer | −1/3 |
| Unattempted Question | 0 |
For example, a candidate who answers 70 questions correctly and 15 incorrectly would obtain:
70 − (15 × 1/3) = 65 marks.
This is an illustrative raw-score calculation, not a normalized score.
RRB Station Master CBT Normalization
The official notification specifies that normalization will be applied when CBT is conducted in multiple shifts.
The normalized CBT score will be used for shortlisting candidates for CBAT according to merit.
Candidates should therefore distinguish between their raw marks and the normalized marks used in the selection process.
RRB Station Master CBAT Exam Pattern 2026
Candidates shortlisted through CBT must appear in the Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT).
The notification provides the following CBAT conditions:
| Particulars | Details |
|---|---|
| Test Name | Computer Based Aptitude Test |
| Shortlisting | Generally 8 times the vacancies, RRB-wise |
| Question Languages | English and Hindi |
| Minimum Qualifying Requirement | T-Score of 42 in each test battery |
| Negative Marking | No |
| Category-Wise Relaxation in T-Score | Not Permitted |
| Vision Certificate | Mandatory in prescribed original format |
| Final Merit Weightage | 30% |
CBAT Minimum Qualifying T-Score
Candidates must obtain a minimum T-Score of 42 in each test battery.
This requirement applies to all candidates, including UR, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS and Ex-Servicemen.
There is no relaxation in the minimum T-Score for any category.
Candidates must qualify in every test battery to be considered for Station Master selection.
Is There Negative Marking in CBAT?
No. The official notification explicitly states that there is no negative marking in CBAT.
How Many Candidates Will Be Shortlisted for CBAT?
Candidates numbering approximately eight times the vacancies, RRB-wise, will be shortlisted from the relevant communities based on CBT performance.
The Railway Administration may increase or decrease the shortlisting ratio according to its requirements.
CBAT Test Batteries and Detailed Syllabus
CEN No. 08/2026 specifies the qualifying T-Score, language, shortlisting rules and negative-marking policy. However, it does not provide a complete battery-wise topic list, question count or duration for CBAT.
For further information on CBAT, the notification directs candidates to the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) website:
Candidates can navigate to Traffic and Psychology → Psychology – Candidate’s Corner.
Applicants should not assume that the CBT syllabus also applies to CBAT.
RRB Station Master Final Merit Calculation
The final merit list will be prepared from candidates who qualify in CBAT.
| Examination | Weightage |
|---|---|
| Computer Based Test (CBT) | 70% |
| Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) | 30% |
| Total | 100% |
The combined merit will be calculated using the prescribed weightages for CBT and CBAT.
Qualifying CBAT is mandatory. Merely obtaining high CBT marks does not guarantee inclusion in the final merit list.
Document Verification and Medical Examination
Candidates will be called for Document Verification based on their combined CBT and CBAT merit.
The number called for Document Verification will generally be equal to the vacancies, following a 1:1 ratio, RRB-wise.
Candidates must produce the required original certificates during Document Verification.
Final appointment is subject to:
- Verification of educational qualifications
- Verification of community and other applicable certificates
- Prescribed medical fitness
- Verification of antecedents and character
- Availability of vacancies and other recruitment conditions
Tie-Breaking Rules
If two or more candidates obtain the same marks, the notification specifies the following tie-breaking order:
- The older candidate will receive higher merit.
- If age is also the same, alphabetical order (A–Z) of the candidate’s given name, not surname, will determine the position.
RRB Station Master Medical Requirements
The Station Master post carries A-2 medical standard.
The prescribed general visual requirements include:
- Distant vision: 6/9, 6/9 without glasses
- Near vision: Sn 0.6, 0.6 without glasses
- Colour vision test
- Binocular vision test
- Night vision test
- Myopic vision test
The notification states that candidates who have undergone LASIK surgery or other surgical procedures to correct refractive error are not eligible for the Station Master post.
Candidates appearing in CBAT must produce the prescribed original vision certificate under Annexure VI or Annexure VI-A, as applicable. Without the certificate, they will not be permitted to appear in CBAT.
RRB Station Master Exam Preparation Strategy
The official distribution provides a useful basis for planning preparation.
The 60-mark Basic Science, Mathematical and Analytical Capability section accounts for the largest portion of the CBT. Candidates should therefore allocate adequate preparation time to Mathematics, Basic Science and Data Analysis.
Logical Capability and Mental Reasoning together carry 40 marks. Regular practice in logical puzzles, English Reading Comprehension, analogy, coding-decoding, series and arrangement problems can help candidates become familiar with these question types.
A practical preparation approach is to:
- Cover every topic explicitly listed in the official syllabus.
- Practise Mathematics and Data Interpretation regularly.
- Develop reading speed and comprehension for English passages.
- Solve Logical Reasoning and Mental Reasoning questions.
- Take full-length 100-question CBT mock tests within 120 minutes.
- Review incorrect answers, especially because of the one-third negative marking.
- Refer to RDSO resources for CBAT-specific preparation.
These are preparation recommendations, not additional official syllabus requirements.
