SBI PO Exam Pattern & Syllabus 2025-26 Basic Overview
Candidates will be selected as a Probationary Officer on the basis of their performance in Preliminary Exam, Mains Exam, Psychometric Test and Personal Interview as well as Group Discussion Test. The Prelims Exam includes topics like English Language, Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude. The Main Exam includes topics like Data Analysis & Interpretation, Reasoning, General/ Economy/ Banking Awareness, Computer Aptitude and English Language.

SBI PO Prelims Exam Pattern 2025 [Updated]
The Selection for the SBI Probationary Officer will be done into 2 stages i.e. Prelims Exam and The Mains Exam. Candidates have to appear for both the stages of exam and get sufficient marks in order to be selected in the Interview stage.
The exam pattern has been newly revised by the State Bank of India and all the upcoming exam of SBI will follow the newly updated pattern from now on wards. If you talk about the Prelims Exam Pattern, there is a minor change in it.
In the Old Prelims Pattern, there was 30 questions used to come from the English Section. But, in the updated Prelims Exam Pattern, total number of 40 questions will be asked from the English Section.
In the Quantitative Section, there is a minor change also. Earlier, a total number of 35 questions used to come from the quantitative aptitude section. Now, in the revised exam pattern, a total number of 30 questions will be asked from the quantitative aptitude section.
In the Reasoning Sector, instead of 35 questions, there will be 30 questions will be set in every shift of the SBI PO Exam. Now, let’s see the detailed pattern in the table format below….

SBI PO Descriptive Test 2025-26
The Main Purpose of Descriptive Test is to check how well you can write and explain things clearly. In this part, you will have to write emails, reports, do situation analysis, and write a precis (short summary). Total marks this test carries is 50 and you will get only 30 minutes to complete your exam.
This year, the format of Descriptive Test has changes a bit . You have to show both of your writing and thinking skills in the given time limit. So, it is very important to practice each and every section very well so that you can achieve a decent score to clear the test.

How to Prepare for SBI PO Exam at Home without Joining any Expensive Coaching Classes?
If you want to prepare for the SBI PO Exam and don’t want to join any expensive coaching classes, you need to understand the Full Syllabus clearly. This will help you to decide what topics you should study more and what to skips so that you do not waste your valuable time on unnecessary things.
After that, You have to collect the best study materials or books for each subject like English, Maths (Quantitative Aptitude), Reasoning, and General Awareness.
Now, it’s time to make a proper study schedule for your whole day. You have to start your day by picking one subject at a time and finish the basics first. You can also use online resources like YouTube or Google to make your preparation easier.
Practice makes your preparation stronger. So, after learning a Topic of any subject, try to solve questions from your book related to the chapters or any other online resources available on the market.
Try to take at least one mock test regularly after completing your syllabus a couple of times which will definitely help you to improve your speed, accuracy as well as time management ability.
If you make any mistake while practicing previous year question papers or during the time of taking mock test, don’t feel bad about it. You should learn from your mistakes and try to gradually improve your weak areas.
For General Awareness and Banking Awareness, read one newspaper daily like “The Hindu” or watch daily news videos and start making short notes out of it. Revise those notes every Sunday.
For the Descriptive part, you should practice writing short essays, emails, and letters in your own words and ask someone to check your writing. Do this on a daily basis and don’t try to compare yourself with others.
