Who is Eligible for SSSU Ph.D. Admission 2026?
Educational Qualification:
Candidates must have completed a postgraduate degree under one of the following conditions to be eligible for SSSU PhD Admission 2026 admission:
After a 4-year/8-semester undergraduate programme, a 1-year/2-semester postgraduate degree; or after a 3-year undergraduate programme, a 2-year/4-semester postgraduate degree; or an equivalent qualification declared by a statutory body where a grading system is followed — all with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade on a point scale.
For candidates from a 4-year/8-semester undergraduate programme seeking direct Ph.D. admission, a minimum of 75% marks or equivalent grade is required.
Candidates who have passed an M.Phil. programme with a minimum of 55% marks are also eligible.
SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/PwD/EWS and other eligible categories may receive a relaxation of 5% marks or equivalent grade as per UGC/government norms from time to time.
Entrance Requirement:
As per UGC notification dated 27-28 March 2024, only candidates who have cleared NET/GSET/SLET/SET/M.Phil./Ph.D. (Sanskrit) are eligible to fill the online admission form. All such qualified candidates must additionally appear in the 20-mark Language Proficiency Test (Bhashadakshata Kasauti) conducted by the university.

Language Proficiency Test (Bhashadakshata Kasauti) 2026
The Language Proficiency Test will be conducted at Shree Somnath Sanskrit University campus, Veraval. The test will be of 20 marks with the following pattern:

The qualifying marks in the Language Proficiency Test are 50% for General category and 45% for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD candidates. The complete medium of the test, viva-voce, thesis summary, and research proposal will be entirely in Sanskrit.
Candidates must appear for the test at their own expense and must bring a valid Photo ID Proof (Driving Licence, PAN Card, Aadhar Card, etc.). The university will issue an admit card at the examination centre half an hour before the test begins.

Ph.D. Course Work Details
As per UGC Gazette notification of November 2022, all candidates who qualify the Language Proficiency Test and are admitted to the Ph.D. programme must complete 12 Credits of Ph.D. Course Work. As per NEP-2020, the Research Advisory Committee (RAC) will give priority to interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, Indian Knowledge System (IKS), and Manuscriptology topics.
Candidates who have previously cleared the university’s PET examination and whose validity period has not expired will be exempted from the Language Proficiency Test. However, they must still fill the online admission form and pay the required fee.
