WBJEE Exam Pattern and Scoring
The examination consists of Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) divided into three categories for each subject:

| Category-1 | 1 Mark | -1/4 (25%) |
| Category-2 | 2 Marks | -1/2 (25%) |
| Category-3 | 2 Marks | No Negative Marking |
In Category-3, one or more options may be correct. Full marks are awarded only if all correct options are selected without any incorrect ones.
Merit Ranking System
The Board generates two distinct merit lists:
- General Merit Rank (GMR): Based on the combined scores of Paper-I (Math) and Paper-II (Physics & Chemistry). This rank is used for admission to all Engineering, Technology, and Architecture courses.
- Pharmacy Merit Rank (PMR): Based only on the score of Paper-II (Physics & Chemistry). This rank is used for Pharmacy course admissions (except at Jadavpur University, which uses GMR).
