WBPSC Clerkship Examination 2026: The Public Service Commission, West Bengal (WBPSC) has released a notification for the Clerkship Examination 2024 (Advertisement No. 12/2024) to recruit candidates to the posts of Lower Division Assistant or Lower Division Clerk and posts similar to that of Lower Division Assistant or Lower Division Clerk in the Secretariat, Directorates, District offices and similar posts in regional offices (including Kolkata) under the rule making power of the Govt. of West Bengal. Eligible candidates can submit their application from 06 October 2026 to 26 October 2026.

The selection process will be done on the basis of Part-I (Objective Type) and Part-II (Conventional Type – Written) examinations, followed by a test judging elementary knowledge in Computer operation and ability of typing on Computer.

WBPSC Clerkship Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Before applying, candidates should check that they meet the WBPSC Clerkship eligibility conditions on qualification, age, nationality and language. The details below follow the previous Clerkship Examination, 2023 (Advt. No. 13/2023); any change in the 2024 advertisement will be updated.

WBPSC Clerkship Educational Qualification

Candidates must have passed the Madhyamik Examination of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education or an equivalent exam. They must also have basic computer knowledge and a typing speed of 20 words per minute in English or 10 words per minute in Bengali. The typing language has to be chosen in the application form.

WBPSC Clerkship Age Limit

The age limit for WBPSC Clerkship is 18 to 40 years. In the 2023 cycle, age was counted as on 1 January 2023. Only the date of birth in the Madhyamik or equivalent certificate is accepted.

Ex-Servicemen with at least six months of continuous service can deduct their service period from their age. They are eligible if the resulting age is not more than 3 years above the upper limit.

Other Requirements

  • Nationality: Citizen of India, or a national declared eligible by the Government of India with an eligibility certificate.
  • Language: Ability to read, write and speak Bengali. This is not required for candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali. Others whose mother tongue is not Bengali will have their Bengali tested during the computer test.
  • Certificates: EWS, SC, ST, OBC, PwBD and sportsperson certificates must be issued by a competent authority of West Bengal on or before the closing date.

Selection Process

  1. Part-I – objective written test (100 marks) on General Studies, Arithmetic and English, with negative marking.
  2. Part-II – conventional (descriptive) paper in English and Bengali / Hindi / Urdu / Nepali / Santali.
  3. Computer Typing Test – qualifying in nature.
  4. Document Verification – followed by final merit list.

  1. Visit the official website psc.wb.gov.in.
  2. Open the Detailed Advertisement of Clerkship Examination, 2024 (Advt. No. 12/2024) and read all conditions.
  3. Complete One Time Enrolment (OTE) if you have not registered with WBPSC before.
  4. Log in and fill in the Clerkship 2024 application form.
  5. Upload your photograph and signature in the required format.
  6. Pay the application fee, if applicable.
  7. Submit the form and download a copy for future reference.

WBPSC Clerkship Recruitment 2026 Selection Process

The WBPSC Clerkship selection runs in three stages. A limited number of candidates who qualify Part-I are called for Part-II, and the computer typing test is held only for those who clear both parts. The final merit list is based on the combined marks of Part-I and Part-II.

After selection, candidates go through a medical examination and police verification before appointment. Posts are allotted by merit and the candidate’s preference for Secretariat, Directorate or Regional/District offices.
