Konkan 2023
- The Indian Navy and the Royal Navy’s yearly bilateral maritime exercise, Konkan 2023, took place off the coast of Konkan, in the Arabian Sea, from March 20 to 22.
- In order to improve interoperability and instill best practices, the Type 23 guided missile frigate HMS Lancaster and the guided missile frigate INS Trishul participated in this edition. The drills featured helicopter operations, anti-air, and anti-submarine warfare training, Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS), ship maneuvers, and personnel exchanges. They covered all aspects of maritime operations, including air, surface, and sub-surface activities.
- Personnel from both fleets received good training value from the exercise. It was conducted with a great degree of professionalism and zeal. The attention that troops showed to strengthening interoperability, preparedness for operations, and the capacity to undertake joint operations would significantly support the joint efforts of the IN & RN to enhance maritime security and preserve a rules-based order in the area.

New species of Moray Eel
- Gymnothorax Tamilnaduensis, often known as the “Tamil Nadu brown moray eel,” is a species of moray eel fish that was found off the coast of Cuddalore by scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
- Marine researchers P Kodeeswaran and G Kantharajan undertook an exploratory study along coastal waters in Parangipettai and Mudasalodai fish landing facilities, Cuddalore district, on behalf of researchers and scientists from ICAR’s National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR).
- After doing a thorough morphological investigation, using skeletal radiography, and using cutting-edge molecular markers, the researchers discovered a new species of fish. They identified it as a unique species of the genus Gymnothorax called the moray eel.
