Eligibility Criteria for IITM Summer Fellowship 2026

Educational Qualification:

Candidates must be pursuing:

  • 3rd Year of a 4-year UG degree (BE/B.Tech/B.Sc Engg) OR
  • 3rd Year of a 5-year Integrated/ Dual Degree (M.E./M.Tech/M.Sc) OR
  • 4th Year of a 5-year Integrated/ Dual Degree (M.E./M.Tech/M.Sc) OR
  • 3-year B.Sc. (with Chemistry, Physics & Mathematics) OR
  • 1st Year of M.Sc. / M.A. / MBA

Academic Requirement:

Applicants must have an outstanding academic background (high ranks in university exams). Applications should highlight academic performance, seminars, projects, design contests, Mathematics Olympiad ranks, and other awards.

Important Note: Students from IITs are not eligible to apply.

Students can apply for research internships in the following academic departments:

  1. Engineering Departments: Aerospace Engg., Applied Mechanics & Biomedical Engg., Biotechnology, Chemical Engg., Civil Engg., Computer Science & Engg., Data Science and AI, Engineering Design, Electrical Engg., Mechanical Engg., Medical Science and Technology, Metallurgical & Materials Engg., Ocean Engg.
  2. Science Departments: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics.
  3. Humanities & Social Sciences
  4. Management Studies

Stipend and Accommodation

  • Stipend: Selected fellows will receive a stipend of Rs. 15,000 per month, paid pro-rata for the actual internship period.
  • Accommodation: Hostel and mess facilities will be provided subject to availability on a payment basis.

Application Process for IITM Summer Fellowship 2026

The application process is entirely online. No hard copies need to be sent.

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Visit the official portal from 02nd February 2026.
  2. Complete the registration to receive login credentials.
  3. Fill in the online application form with all required details.
  4. Upload the necessary documents in the prescribed format and size.
  5. Pay the non-refundable application fee of Rs. 100 via Debit/Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI.
  6. Submit the form and keep a printout for future reference.

  • Category Certificate (if applicable) (PDF, Max 2MB)

  • Consolidated Academic Certificates (10th, 12th, & all semester mark sheets) (PDF, Max 2MB)
  • Statement of Purpose (SOP) (Not more than 1 page)
