Eligibility Criteria for TNSET 2024
Before applying for these positions, ensure that you meet the requirements. Once you’ve confirmed your eligibility, explore the details below to learn more about the selection process, application fee, and how to apply.
Educational Qualifications:
Candidates should have at least 55% marks in their Master’s Degree or equivalent from universities recognized by UGC. For SC/SC(A)/ST/PwD/Third gender category candidates, the minimum required marks are 50%.
Candidates in Progress or Awaiting Results:
If you’re still pursuing your Master’s degree, have appeared for the final year exams, and are awaiting results, you can still apply. However, you’ll be provisionally admitted and considered eligible only after you pass your Master’s degree with the required marks within two years from the date of the TNSET result.
Relaxation for Ph.D. Holders:
Ph.D. degree holders who completed their Master’s Level examination before September 19, 1991, get a 5% relaxation in marks required to appear in TNSET.
The subject of Examination:
It’s advisable to choose the subject of your Post-Graduation for the exam. If your subject isn’t listed for TNSET, you may consider appearing in the UGC-NET/joint CSIR-UGC Test.
Evaluation of Foreign Degrees:
Candidates with foreign degrees should ensure the equivalence of their diploma/ degree/ certificate with Master’s degrees from recognized Indian universities through the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi.
No Upper Age Limit:
There’s no upper age limit for applying for TNSET, giving candidates ample opportunity to pursue academic careers.

TNSET 2024 Exam Pattern
| Paper Structure |
| The TNSET comprises two papers: Paper I and Paper II. |
| Paper I is common for all candidates, while Paper II is based on |
| the PG subject is chosen by the candidate from the TNSET subject list. |
| Both papers consist of multiple-choice questions (MCQ) in |
| Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. |
| There is no break between the two papers. |
Paper I:
- Duration: 3 hours (180 minutes) without any break.
- Total Marks: 100
- Number of Questions: 50
- Objective: This paper assesses general knowledge, teaching capabilities, research aptitude, reasoning ability, reading comprehension, higher education system, people and development, environment, mathematical aptitude, divergent thinking, and general awareness of the candidate.
Paper II:
- Total Marks: 200
- Number of Questions: 100
- Objective: This paper evaluates the candidate’s understanding of the domain knowledge in the PG subject chosen from the TNSET subject list.
Additional Details:
Syllabus: The syllabus for TNSET is the same as for UGC-NET/CSIR-NET. Candidates should note that Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Tirunelveli will not send the syllabi individually.
Language Medium: The question paper is in English, except for Paper II of language subjects (Tamil, Arabic, Hindi, Malayalam, Sanskrit, Telugu, and Urdu).
Negative Marking: There is no negative marking for incorrect answers.
