How is WGPA Calculated?

Allotment is based on each candidate’s Weighted Grade Point Average (WGPA), calculated to 7 decimal places using the following formula:

WGPA = AVP + BVP

Where:

  • AVP (Academic Value Part) = (TGP + GSW) ÷ (TS + TSW)
  • BVP (Bonus Value Part) = (BP – MP) ÷ 10
  • TGP = Total Grade Points across all subjects
  • GSW = Total Grade Points of subjects for which weightage is given (based on chosen combination)
  • TS = Total number of subjects
  • TSW = Number of subjects for which weightage is given
  • BP = Bonus Points (max 10)
  • MP = Minus Points (1 point per chance for failing the qualifying exam previously)

Grade Point Scale: A+ = 9, A = 8, B+ = 7, B = 6, C+ = 5, C = 4, D+ = 3

In case of a tie in WGPA, the following tie-breaking order is applied: Grace mark recipients ranked lower → Higher Academic Value Part (AVP) → Higher TGP of weighted subjects → Higher grade in English → Higher grade in First Language → Preference order of combination given by applicant → Local priority (same school → same Panchayat → Govt./Aided school not in Panchayat → same Taluk → same District).
