Important Instructions for Candidates
The RRB has issued several important instructions for candidates appearing in the CBT:
- Exam City & Date Link: The link for viewing exam city and date, and downloading travel authority for SC/ST candidates, will be live approximately 10 days prior to the exam date on the official websites of all RRBs.
- E-Call Letters: Downloading of e-call letters will start 4 days prior to the exam date mentioned in the Exam City and Date intimation link.
- Aadhaar Linked Biometric Authentication: Candidates will undergo Aadhaar-linked biometric authentication at the exam center before entering the exam hall. Candidates must bring their original Aadhaar card or a printout of e-verified Aadhaar. Those who have not yet authenticated their identification through Aadhaar verification are advised to do so by logging in at www.rrbapply.gov.in.
- Aadhaar Must Be Unlocked: Candidates, including those who verified their Aadhaar during application submission, are requested to ensure their Aadhaar remains in an unlocked condition in the UIDAI system before coming to the exam center.
- Updated Aadhaar Details: The Aadhaar card should be updated with the correct name, date of birth (as per Class 10th certificate), latest photograph, biometrics (if not updated upon reaching 15 years of age), address, and father’s name.
- Official Website Only: Candidates are advised to refer only to the official websites of RRBs for the latest updates. They should not be misled by unauthenticated sources.
- Beware of Touts: Candidates are warned against touts who try to misguide them with fake promises of appointment on illegal consideration. RRB selections are based purely on the Computer Based Test (CBT) and merit of the candidates.

RRB Section Controller Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility in terms of education qualification, age limit, and medical standard is discussed below.
Education Qualification – Candidates must hold a University Degree or its equivalent from a recognised Board/University/Institute. Candidates awaiting the final result of the prescribed qualification are not eligible to apply.
Age Limit (as on 01.07.2026) – Candidates should be between 20 to 33 years of age. Age relaxation is applicable for reserved categories: 3 years for OBC-NCL, 5 years for SC/ST, and further relaxation for Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, and other eligible categories as per Government rules.
Medical Standard – Candidates must meet the A-2 medical standard, which includes distant vision of 6/9, 6/9 without glasses, near vision Sn 0.6, 0.6 without glasses, and normal colour, binocular, night, and myopic vision. Candidates who have undergone Lasik surgery or any other corrective eye procedure are not eligible for this post.

RRB Section Controller Selection Process
The selection process for the Section Controller post comprises the following stages:
- Single Stage Computer Based Test (CBT): 120 minutes duration, 100 questions, with negative marking of 1/3rd mark for each wrong answer. The CBT covers Analytical and Mathematical Capability, Logical Capability, and Mental Reasoning.
- Shortlisting for CBAT: Candidates equal to 8 times the vacancies (RRB-wise) will be shortlisted for the Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), based on merit in the CBT.
- Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT): Candidates need to secure a minimum T-Score of 42 marks in each test battery to qualify. There is no negative marking in CBAT.
- Document Verification (DV): Based on combined merit — 70% weightage to CBT and 30% weightage to CBAT — candidates equal to the number of vacancies will be called for DV as per merit and railway options.
- Medical Examination: Selected candidates must qualify the prescribed medical standard (A-2) conducted by Railway Medical Authorities.
Minimum qualifying percentage in CBT: UR & EWS – 40%, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) – 30%, SC – 30%, ST – 25%.
